Advantages And Disadvantages Of Both Nitrile Gloves And Latex Gloves

Jan 10, 2022

First, the advantages and disadvantages of the two:

1. Nitrile gloves:

Material: NBR, synthetic rubber for nitrile gloves, the main components are acrylonitrile and butadiene.

Advantages: non-allergic, degradable, can add pigments, bright colors.

Cons: Not as elastic as latex gloves.

2. Latex gloves.

Material: Natural Latex (NR)

Advantages: good elasticity, degradable.

Disadvantages: Some people are allergic, and the color is single.

Second, the difference between the two:

1. Material differences.

Latex gloves are also called rubber gloves. Latex is a natural material, obtained from the sap of the rubber tree. Natural latex is a biosynthetic product. Due to different tree species, geology, climate and other related conditions, its composition and structure often have great differences. In fresh latex without any added substances, rubber hydrocarbons only account for 20%-40% of the total, and the rest are non-rubber components and water. Non-rubber components include proteins, fats, sugars, and inorganic components, among others. Some of them form composite structures with rubber particles, some dissolve in whey or form non-rubber particles.

Nitrile is an artificial rubber, mainly synthesized from acrylonitrile and butadiene, and is a key material for organic synthesis and medical intermediates.

2. Classification differences.

Latex gloves are divided into ordinary powder type and powder-free purification type, with smooth surface and hemp surface non-slip.

Nitrile gloves are divided into palm hemp surface anti-slip and hand-tip hemp surface anti-slip. The overall hemp surface is non-slip and generally powder-free.

3. Prevent allergies.

Latex gloves contain protein and are prone to allergic reactions to people with allergies.

Nitrile gloves do not contain harmful substances such as proteins and amino compounds, and are rarely allergic.

4. Degradability.

Latex gloves and nitrile gloves are degradable, easy to handle, and environmentally friendly.

5. Puncture resistance.

Toughness and abrasion resistance of latex gloves compared to nitrile gloves

Nitrile gloves are three to five times more puncture resistant than latex. For dentists who need to use sharp tools, the use of durable nitrile gloves creates a safer barrier in patient contact.

6. Elasticity.

Latex gloves are soft and wear-resistant, and their elasticity is better than nitrile gloves.

7. Fit the hand shape.

Because nitrile gloves contain butadiene monomer, they can be a flexible rubber that allows the wearer to experience optimal tactile sensitivity. Furthermore, due to its good thermal conductivity, this property provides excellent flexibility, which is especially important for medical professionals or those who handle small parts or tools.

8. Price.

Because nitrile materials have much better chemical and acid and alkali resistance than latex, the price of nitrile gloves is higher than that of latex products.

9. Color.

Nitrile materials can be added with pigments for bright colors. It can relieve the tension of the patient.
